About

Beyond the 64 SquaresI’ve been playing competitive chess since I was five years old, eventually earning the titles of U.S. National Master and FIDE Candidate Master. But the true power of the game didn't click until I started teaching free classes for kids at my local library here in the Rivertowns.Around the same time, I began volunteering with DOROT, a non-profit that helps connect teens with older adults over a game of chess. These experiences led me to found the Hudson Chess Exchange. In chess, an "exchange sacrifice" is a move where a player gives up material in the short term to gain a long-term strategic advantage. That is our philosophy. We exchange time and expertise to build a more connected community in the Rivertowns and Westchester County. Whether it’s a simultaneous exhibition at a senior center or a workshop for students, that exchange is at the heart of everything we do.Carter
